Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

The Research Assistant will support Hamid Khalili and Guillermo Sanchez Sotes at Future Processes Research Lab [fp]lab, based within A3RO at Manchester School of Architecture (MSA).

Key Tasks
  • Providing support in conducting literature and database searches.
  • Providing support in reviewing and summarising relevant research sources.
  • Providing support in checking citations, references and bibliographies.
  • Providing support in formatting research documents and publication materials.
  • Providing support in copy-editing text for clarity, grammar and consistency.
  • Providing support in preparing and refining drawings, diagrams, graphs, tables and other graphic materials.
  • Providing support in checking figure captions, labels and document layouts.
  • Providing support in the final preparation of reports, publications and presentations.
  • Providing support in attending project meetings and communicating progress.

Dates: 15 June 2026 – 20 July 2026
Hours: 13-15 hours per week
Location: Hybrid

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below.

Essential
  •  Current Manchester Met student in architecture, design, media, arts and humanities, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in providing research support.
  • Strong experience in arts and humanities research, including literature and database searches.
  • Ability to review, summarise and organise complex research material.
  • Experience in checking citations, references and bibliographies.
  • Excellent written English, with strong copy-editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
  • Experience in formatting documents and preparing materials for publication or presentation.
  • Experience in preparing or refining drawings, diagrams, graphs, tables or other graphic materials.
  • Ability to use initiative and prioritise tasks independently while working collaboratively with the research team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines within a short project timeframe.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of architecture, visual culture, media or related humanities research.
  • Experience using reference-management software, such as Zotero, EndNote or Mendeley.
  • Experience using graphic-design or editing software, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or equivalent software.
  • Experience supporting the preparation of academic publications, reports or presentations.
