Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students to apply for; if your application is successful, we will arrange your Jobs4Students registration before you start work.

Student Services are looking for current students, studying within the Faculty of Business & Law on the degree courses listed below and in the Person Specification to work in Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Leader roles throughout the 2020/2021 academic year (term time only).  The internationally recognised PAL programme is based on the concept that students can support each other with their academic and study skills, whilst also creating learning communities on campus.

Applications will be accepted from students who will be in their second year of study in September 2020, studying:
* Business Management
* Business & Law

Applications will be accepted from students who will be in their third year of study in September 2020, studying:
* Accounting and Finance
* Combined Business and Marketing

 If successful, you will be:

* Planning and running study sessions for students who are a lower year group of your course, either online or on campus
* Collaborating with staff from across the University.
* Attending training and debriefs where you will receive support, resources, and feedback.

You will be expected to lead discussions and share ideas, but you will not be expected to give answers to academic questions or coursework, to take the place of lecturers, or to share your lecture notes or assignments. Activities will be carried out in groups with two leaders, so you will be part of a team.

Five reasons to become a PAL leader

* Boost your skills and employability with free training and experience in leadership, presentation, and coaching (skills highly prized by graduate recruiters).
* Earn a good hourly wage and work up to three hours per week
* Gain confidence and perhaps a better degree result, as you learn and reinforce what you know, by sharing it
* Experience what it’s like to make a positive difference, helping students who are new to your course
* Meet new people and join our learning community.

Role dates: Interviews are expected to take place in mid-September, with compulsory training for the successful applicants in late September-early October, and weekly work during term time following training until 18th June 2021 (paid at the J4S higher rate)

Working hours: Up to 3 hours a week (times to be agreed with the hiring manager). There may be a requirement to work additional hours in the first few weeks of the academic year – this will be discussed with PAL Leaders prior to this happening.
