The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
The student will assist in sample preparation, analysis and calculations for a range of ecological sample types (mostly soils and leaves). This will assist Dr Brearley in research activities. Specific tasks will include analysis of soils for soil pH, phosphorus concentrations and metals and analysis of leaves for mercury concentrations. The student will have the opportunity to work through all aspects of the research lifecycle.

Hours per week: Up to 20
Students will be expected to develop the following skills and experiences while carrying out this internship:
Use of analytical equipment (e.g. spectrophotometer, ICP-OES, elemental analyser, microwave digestor)
Attention to detail in sample preparation
Mathematical skills for post-processing of data obtained
Safe laboratory practices
Liaising with academics and technical staff to complete work efficiently
Please Note - As part of the 2024 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2024 Student Internship offering.
