Mouthguard device for the rehabilitation of swallowing disorders patients
In this project the student will have the chance to join an experienced research group to contribute in the development of a device for the rehabilitation of individual with swallowing disorders. The contribution will be on the design of the electrical component to make the device wireless and able to transfer the data directly to a mobile phone app. The device is made of a force sensor embedded in a mouthguard so that it is able to record the pressure of the tongue on the palate while swallowing.
The student will have to design and produce the circuit for the wireless communication and eventually transfer the data real time in a mobile app. The student will be able to access the Electronic Lab and its facilities in the Department of Engineering. A support from the research team will be provided but it is a expected a certain level of autonomy when building the circuit.
