Job Description

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2023 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2023 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students.
  
Background
Mentor Me is a programme that offers Manchester Met. University students a mentor from the sector in which they aspire to work in. Mentors add real value to the student experience and provide a valuable opportunity for students to gain an insight into the world of work. Mentoring can enhance professional development, increase confidence and help to develop key skills that will provide students with a competitive edge in the graduate labour market. 
  
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
Preparing and the delivery of Mentor Me for 2024/25:
  • Carrying out administration on Career Hub, to assist in the matching of students to mentors; using templates to introduce mentors & students, updating matching and availability records etc.
  • Updating mentors profiles to show their availability and contact details; using LinkedIn to connect with those who haven't responded in some time.
  • Contacting students and mentors to see how their mentoring is progressing. Following up students who were offered a mentor and may not have engaged.
  • Collecting feedback from students and mentors; promoting the opportunity for students to gain RISE points.
  • Moderating the new Mentor Me LinkedIn account; ensuring that only MMU students and MM mentors can access the group to ask questions. Making sure only appropriate Q&A's are displayed on group (removal of unwanted chat). Helping to promote to students & Mentors who have registered on Mentor Me.
Assist in the delivery of a Research Project: Tackling racial equity on awarding and employability gaps within Higher Education, with an EDI career mentoring scheme:
  • Supporting the collation of research data
  • Supporting the promotion of the project and assisting with the recruitment of participants
  • Arranging focus groups with participants and gathering data
  • Assisting with the event to introduce students to Mentors
Details
Dates: Monday 19 August to Friday 25 October 2024
Hours: 35 hours per week full time, except for Bank Holiday Monday
Working pattern: Monday to Friday. Working hours are 08:45am-16:30pm or 09:00am-16:45pm with an unpaid 45-minute lunch break 
Location:  Hybrid/6 Great Marlborough Street

Person Specification

This role is only open to those who graduated from a Manchester Met undergraduate course in June 2023 and are not currently studying on a postgraduate course.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following:
   
Essential:
  • Confident in communicating with a range of external professionals, from a wide range of sectors - using the telephone, email, social media and in-person
  • A good knowledge of IT; Excel, word, SharePoint, Office 365 forms & mail merge would be an advantage.
  • Good grammar & numeracy skills
  • The ability to manage your time effectively and to prioritise work load.
  • Whilst at MMU, took part in Mentor Me or other mentoring scheme. To have a clear understanding of the benefits mentoring has on students employability.
