Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
 
The Centre for Place Writing (CPW), a dynamic research group based within the Department of English, is looking for an experienced Communications Assistant to help promote the Centre's activities and events. 
 
The successful candidate will support the CPW leadership team and be expected to engage with University staff and external supporters of the Centre.
 
Key Responsiblities:
  • Maintaining CPW's Twitter/X and Facebook accounts.
  • Developing profiles on other platforms including Instagram, Bluesky and TikTok.
  • Assisting the leadership team in the development of CPW's webpages.
  • Developing and maintaining an electronic mailing list. 
  • Assisting with the preparation of newsletters and CPW's annual report.
Dates: Starting as soon as possible, until the end of June 2025
Hours of work: 8 hours per week (flexible working)  

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students.
 
Essential
  • Excellent written English
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Must have previous administrative, clerical, or customer service experience
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, and creatively in a busy, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to solve problems and pursue tasks to resolution
  • Strong communication skills and a positive disposition
  • Familiarity with standard office & IT systems
  • Compliance with Data Protection legislation, confidentiality and sensitive information handling

Desirable

  • Currently studying for a PhD or MA in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
