Library and Cultural Services (LCS) are a key asset for Manchester Metropolitan University. Having a well-designed and user-friendly service is essential for LCS, enabling seamless access to a vast array of resources, services, and support for staff, students, and the wider community.
As a Virtual Reality UX Officer, you will have the opportunity to directly contribute to the enhancement of the user experience for students. Your work will enable students to navigate our services seamlessly and access the resources they need effectively. By incorporating student insights and feedback into the design and development process, you will play an important role in creating a user-centred service that meets the needs and expectations of our Manchester Met community.
The project will consist of the following key activities:
- Working with the LCS User Experience group to identify key areas for user experience research utilising VR.
- Training and ongoing peer support from colleagues in the group.
- Short, guided literature review to ensure familiarity with a range of UX techniques, why UX is important and tips for successful activities.
- Determining the most effective UX activities to gather feedback.
- Conducting UX activities using the VR technology to gather insights into students' needs, preferences, and barriers related to specific areas of LCS.
- Analysing user feedback and other data to identify trends and patterns that can inform decision-making for service improvements.
- Project management experience, overseeing and coordinating a range of activities within a set timeframe.
- Presenting results and insights to a wider team audience

Students will be expected to develop the following skills and experiences while carrying out this internship
- Developing interpersonal skills, communicating with a diverse range of people in different ways including face to face, online and via email
- Gaining insights into the impact of diverse perspectives, needs and preferences
- Interpreting and analysing user feedback and other data
- Working collaboratively within a team
- Developing problem-solving and decision-making skills within a project management context.
Please Note - As part of the 2025 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2025 Student Internship offering.
