Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. 

The successful candidate will conduct a review of juror support practices around the world. This will entail a systematic search for relevant information from a variety of academic, professional and governmental sources. This is a fantastic opportunity for a student who is keen to develop their research skills, engage with external stakeholders, with a view to being a potential co-author on a research publication.  

The successful candidate will assist in:  

  • Searching for relevant information from a variety of academic, professional and governmental sources on practices relating to juror wellbeing 
  • Synthesising information , comparing and contrasting varying practices 
  • Writing up the findings for a publication  
  • Attending training/support sessions with the Library and/or Study Skills teams to help develop research skills associated with the above activities

Students will be expected to develop the following skills and experiences while carrying out this internship

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills  
  • Professionalism in written and verbal communication with a range of stakeholders 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team  
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills  
  • An interest in forensic psychology or related fields 
  • Ability to summarise and present data in a clear and concise manner  

Please Note - As part of the 2025 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.

Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2025 Student Internship offering. 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
 

Essential  

  • Must be a Level 5 or Level 6 student in the School of Psychology.  

  • Have excellent overall academic and writing skills; excellent ability to articulate ideas in writing (evidence through high marks in written assignments).  

  • Have excellent organisation skills (ability to manage own time effectively, to organise clearly information or papers in folders using OneDrive, etc.).  

  • Are punctual and have high professional standards (e.g., are on time for meetings, meet agreed targets / deadlines, communicate with clarity any challenges or difficulties and seek timely guidance, accept guidance or constructive feedback and use it to improve performance, etc.).  

  • Good attention to detail (because part of the process will involve checking / proof reading).  

  • Are happy to work and learn independently (because this is a project that includes a lot of independent study / work and minimal contact with others), as well as collaboratively as part of a research team.  

  • Are confident to contact and liaise with external organisations in a professional manner both via email and by telephone/video call.  

 

Desirable  

  • Have a desire to apply for studies in psychology or a related field at postgraduate level.  

  • Knowledge and/or strong interest in psychological trauma, juror wellbeing, criminal justice practice, jury duty.  

  • Previous experience of undertaking literature reviews (evidenced through high marks in research methods qualitative assignments).
