This is an internship opportunity funded by the National Institute of Health Research Undergraduate Internship Scheme. This internship gives the opportunity to develop personal and professional skills such as enhanced communication and critical thinking, as well as a wider understanding of research projects. Interns will gain experience from different phases of the research process in which these skills can be utilised in various research settings in the future.
The aim is that the intern will gain an understanding of the various stages of a clinical academic career; from developing a research topic to observing what it takes to deliver research projects, including large multicentre randomised controlled trials. The intern will develop advanced skills in literature searching, data analysis and synthesis of literature from conducting a scoping review. Communication skills will be developed through regular contact with supervisors, networking and report presentation. An overall understanding of the challenges in being inclusive in musculoskeletal trauma research will be achieved by the end of the internship which can be transferred into future research in musculoskeletal trauma and beyond.
The intern will be expected to:
Conduct a small scoping review. The topics will be around equality, diversity and inclusivity in musculoskeletal trauma or physical rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer.
Engage with researchers at the Department of Health Professions at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Attend meetings related to research projects.
Undertake training on systematic reviews and other research skills identified based on a training need analysis.
Prepare and write a report/paper
Deliver a presentation

Times: Most work will take place between 9:00am - 5:00pm
Dates and times will be flexible to fit study commitments. The majority of hours/weeks are to be completed during summer.
Details of briefing/training (if relevant): In the first meeting the structure of the internship will be discussed and a training need analysis completed.
The hiring department have confirmed that they will cover any travel or accommodation expenses (they have a £1000.00 budget for this).
