Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

  Applicants must be available for either the 9:30 AM–1:30 PM or 1:30 PM–5:30 PM time slot between July 21st and August 4th (excluding Sundays, July 26th and August 2nd). Availability is required on only one Saturday—either July 25th or August 1st—from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This role will be based in Manchester School of Art (Lowry Building) and the Manchester Fashion Institute (Righton Building) between end of June and 4th August, and will support the planning and preparation for an International Summer School for UG students from our international partner universities which will run from July 20th- 4th August. Certain activities will also be offered to Manchester Met students as RISE opportunities.

The International Summer School is organised by Kat Scott and Michael Hawkins with the aim of introducing students from Manchester Met’s international partner universities to Manchester School of Art’s wide range of creative courses and our students, and to the rich cultural life in Manchester and the NW of England. The project aims to strengthen our links with our international partners and provide Manchester Met students with opportunities to develop intercultural

competencies and experience study activities across Design, Fine Art, Photography, Illustration, and Fashion.

International Summer School participants will experience a blend of NW England sightseeing and on-campus study experiences across Design, Fine Art, Photography, Illustration, and Fashion.

The intern will gain opportunities to develop skills in teamwork and planning through project and event organisation, as well as skills in communication through obtaining and organising information relevant to the summer school. They would gain experience of working with academics, teaching assistants, technical support staff across the university and suppliers to support the variety of activities scheduled for the International Summer School.

The intern is welcome to join the International Summer School on-campus activities as a RISE participant and gain the associated RISE points.

 International Summer School Intern 60 hours, between end of June and 4th August 2025
 
 Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

· Support Faculty international colleagues to prepare and facilitate international summer school events to be held at Manchester School of Art in July 2025

· Support organisation of cultural trips such as Liverpool Biennial, Chester, Cheshire Oaks, Crosby, Tatton Hall and venues in Manchester

· Support preparation of detailed itinerary and student handbook for the international summer school

· Provide support during Summer School sessions (either morning or afternoon), including assisting students with navigating Manchester and using public transport.

· Capture photos of sessions for use on social media.

· Propose and lead an itinerary for one Saturday morning activity for Summer School students.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 

· Communication and IT skills (making phone calls, sending and replying to emails, finding information online, using MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Sharepoint, Powerpoint, Teams)

· Timekeeping and organisational skills (record keeping)

· Experience of organising any events or projects (can be at university or outside)

· Experience of Manchester School of Art and/or experience in Cultural Tourism in and around Manchester/NW England

· Intercultural competencies

· Must be an undergraduate
