Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
The main purpose of this role is to provide research support to colleagues and support staff for the project titled: From access to inclusion? Voicing the football consumer experience of disabled football fans in Scotland and England.

Support the development of new areas in the field of Sport Business and Human Rights
 
Dates: 17/11/2025 - 31/03/2025 
Hours: Flexible around studies - It could be 0 to a maximum of 16hrs per week. Total number of hours 200
Location: Remote 

Key Tasks
Research Activities
  • Assist with participants recruitment, especially among disabled football fans and help arrange interview dates and logistics.
  • Undertake literature reviews and database searches using standard techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of one research report.
  • Support data management, including tracking deadlines and ensuring ethical standards are upheld.
  • Oversee the automatic transcription of interviews.
  • Store and organise research materials such as transcripts, photos, and consent forms.
  • Use NVivo for qualitative data organisation.
  • Plan and prioritise own work and resources, within research project framework, in order to determine the most effective way to achieve agreed research objectives.
Liaison and Networking
Present research to the team and in appropriate articles for publication, such as academic/professional journals or conferences.
Participate in internal and external partnerships and networks in order to aid the dissemination of research findings, to share best practice, and to enhance the reputation of the University.
 
Service Provision
Proactively and effectively engage with quality assurance procedures to ensure that University standards are upheld.
Collaborate with academic colleagues on research development and future direction.
 
Team Working
Actively participate as a member of the research team, offering general help and guidance to others and PhD students who may be assisting with the research project.
 
Attend Faculty, Department and Programme meetings/boards as appropriate to proactively contribute to decision making.
 
Introduce new starters to the area, giving training on basic skills and activities to assist their induction to the team.
 
Assist in the supervision of taught postgraduate and/or research students, as required, to support the development research skills.
 
Other 
Maintain project documentation and assist with reporting requirements.
Support the Principal Investigator with day-to-day project management tasks

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 
Essential
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. social sciences, disability studies, sport studies). 
  • Must be a Master or PhD student
  • Experience of qualitative data collection, including conducting and recording interviews.
  • Ability to undertake research by preparing, setting up, and managing interview logistics.
  • Experience of prioritising work independently and as part of a team in order to deliver individual and team objectives.
  • Ability to store and manage research materials such as transcripts, photographs, and consent forms securely and systematically.
  • Experience overseeing automatic transcription processes and ensuring transcription accuracy.
  • Ability to manage project timelines, track deadlines, and support day-to-day coordination of research activities.
  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge to work within an established research team.
 
Desirable
  • Knowledge of research related to disability, sport, and inclusion, including relevant qualitative methods and ethical considerations.
  • Good knowledge in the use of relevant software packages, including NVivo and reference management tools (e.g. Zotero).
  • Experience working with disabled people, particularly in sport or community settings.
