Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
You will work in a team of two to deliver one of two lessons to a group of English language learners ONLINE using MS Teams. These learners are B2/C1 level and are preparing for the Occupational English Test English language proficiency examination. You will be responsible for teaching ONE of the lessons each week. For every hour that you teach, you will be paid another hour for preparation and administrative duties. The timetable is: Mondays : 12noon-2pm or Wednesdays: 12noon-2pm.

The scheme of work and materials will be provided, but you will be expected to plan the lessons and produce supporting resources (i.e. amend PowerPoint presentations and provide supplementary exercises). Other administrative duties will also need to be completed (such as the register and record keeping).

This course is run via the university’s English Language Centre which is accredited by the British Council. Consequently, please only apply if you hold a Trinity CERT TESOL or CELTA certificate.

Dates: from w/c 26 January 2026 –  w/c 3 April 2026
Times: 12noon - 2pm (+2 hours preparation time)

Throughout the course, you will be supported by the Course Coordinator. If successful, the coordinator will provide access to the OET preparation provider training platform and you will be expected to complete 5 hours of online training (videos and quizzes) before the course begins on 26th January.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements:

The ideal candidate will hold a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., Trinity CERT TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent). They should demonstrate proven experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language to diverse learners, ideally with some experience teaching online.

Strong knowledge of communicative teaching methodologies is essential. The candidate must exhibit adaptability, and the ability to create engaging, learner-centred lessons. 

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are required to foster a positive learning environment. Competence in integrating technology into teaching and familiarity with online learning platforms is essential. The successful applicant will be organized, reliable, demonstrate cultural sensitivity and passionate about helping students achieve their language goals.
