Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 

MetroPolis, the University’s policy think-tank, is looking to appoint a student intern to play a key role in the launch of our annual MetroPolis Magazine. This flagship publication showcases Manchester Met’s policy-relevant research and insight, and is shared widely across the University as well as with policymakers in Manchester, Westminster and internationally.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in working in editing, publishing or communications to gain hands-on experience in a professional policy-focused environment. The intern will work closely with the MetroPolis team and provide practical support across the production and distribution process. Responsibilities will include editing and proofreading article submissions, liaising with contributors to chase outstanding content, researching and compiling distribution lists, and helping to organise and manage printed copies. The role will also involve practical support with preparing magazines for postage and coordinating delivery to both internal and external recipients.

 
Date(s): 2 February 2026 to 27 March 2026
Times: Flexible, up to 6 hrs a week

Details of briefing/training:
Training will be provided for any non-Microsoft software applications. The successful candidate is expected to be familiar with the Microsoft Office 365 suite, including Word and Excel.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students.
 
Essential
  • Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to detail for editing and proofreading
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • An excellent communicator, able to engage politely and professionally with a range of stakeholders within and outside the University Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office Strong self-initiative, with the ability to work independently to complete tasks
 
Desirable 
  • Interest in public policy, research impact or communications
  • Experience of editing, publishing or supporting written outputs (e.g. student publications, blogs or newsletters)
  • Previous experience working in an office or professional environment
 
Personal attributes
  • Careful and methodical approach to work
  • Positive and flexible attitude, with a willingness to support practical tasks as needed
  • Professional and courteous manner when communicating with staff and external contacts
