Rise Above the Noise - Project Facilitator 


The Rise Above the Noise Project is seeking a team of workshop facilitators to support the gathering of information and managing group work in a dynamic short two-day (am only) creative design research workshop.

The project is being hosted by the Product Design Programme at Manchester School of Art and is being run in collaboration with Strate School of Design in Paris. 

The project:
Rise above the Noise is a short duration design X Education project being run as part of GoGlobal Week 2026. The students undertaking the project will be L4 UG Product and International Design students.

We need facilitators based in Manchester to work with small student groups using MIRO and MS Teams to encourage connection and participation and exchange across the two campuses in Manchester and Paris.

Facilitators will receive an induction into the project and role and will bet. given a task pack. Facilitators will also be supported by the project leaders.

About the project in a nutshell:

Smartphone Apps are an essential part of life. In response to global media debate and legislation, we are asking young people how Apps support or challenge creativity in education, school and beyond. 

The aim of the project is to use Bruno Latour's critical Mapping method to support collaborating student groups to explore their Smartphone App experiences. 

Research Dimension:

In addition to the project activities, the project lead team will be gathering the information collected and generated by the students as data to support future research analysis. The facilitator role will be key in supporting this data gathering process.

The facilitator role will be suitable to students who are interested in the following:

Design Research
Managing Group Work
Understanding Research
Working in International Collaborative sessions
Working with research methods (Bruno Latour's work)

 

Dates: 
Briefing: 
Monday 16th February 14:00-16:00

Research Workshops: Monday 2nd March 08:30-13:00 & Tuesday 3rd March 08:30-13:00

Details of briefing/training:

16-27 Feb undertake 4 hours RISE training

 We would expect facilitators to complete the RISE facilitator training and attend a pre-sessional induction and to be able to make notes, ask questions, support students and share insights with the project team.

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
 
  • Enthusiastic and polite
  • Keen to Learn
  • Like working with people and groups
  • Interested in learning about research
  • Interested in the topic of smartphone App use in young people
  • Interested in international collaboration.
