Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
The main purpose of this role is to provide support to colleagues in the  Marketing International Business and Tourism department and Manchester Institute of Fashion (MIF) to run a workshop with practitioners titled 'Managing Disruption'. The work involves identifyingcommunicating and inviting managers from fashion retail and textile industry, organising the workshop and creating a mini-report.  This is a part-time job that requires coordination between the Business School and Manchester Fashion Institute academic staff. The work is expected to start from 10th March and end by 15 July 2026 and involve 25-30 hours of work (including a half a day workshop)
 
Dates: 10 March 2026 - 15 July 2026
Hours: 25 - 30 hours between the above dates 
Location: Online and in Manchester Metropolitan University's campus

Key Tasks
  • Identify and contact managers of businesses in the fashion/retail/textile industry
  • Invite businesses for the workshop
  • Generate ideas for running the workshop effectively
  • Coordinate activities between the Business School and the Fashion Institute for the workshop
  • Manage preparations for the day of the workshop (catering, facilities etc)
  • Support the workshop during the day (e.g Recording discussions and results)
  • Coordinate preparation and dissemination of the mini-report after the workshop

Miscellaneous

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 
Essential
  • Ability to proactively approach the industry players/business managers
  • Confidence in communicating with businesses over phone, email and face to face.
  • Ability to work independently, lead and collaborate to meet deadlines
  • Reliability and responsiveness
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Strong coordination skills
  • Proactivity and creativity in generating ideas for running workshops
  • Interest (and ideally some experience) in preparing for and running events/workshops
  • Good analytical and inter-personal skills
 
Desirable
  • Having dealt with Fashion/Textile industry managers before
  • Experience in running industry workshops or events
  • Basic design skills or interest in designing the final mini-report for the participants.
