Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
 The Staff College is seeking a Data Collection and Analysis Intern to support research and evaluation of our current Director of Children’s Services (DCS) Leadership offer. This internship provides a structured development opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research, data handling, and analysis while working closely with senior colleagues and sector leaders.
 
 Key Responsibilities

Research and Data Collection

  • Support research, evaluation, and project activity by collecting quantitative and qualitative data from surveys, internal datasets, and desk-based research.
  • Ensure data is accurately recorded, organised, and stored in line with The Staff College’s data protection and information governance requirements.
  • Assist with data quality checks, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, commonalities or emerging themes.

    Data Analysis

  • Undertake basic data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and key insights relevant to leadership development and workforce data.
  • Use tools such as Microsoft Excel to summarise, analyse, and visualise data.
  • Support the Project Manager in developing evidence-based findings to inform future tenders and reports.

    Reporting and Presentation

  • Prepare clear, accurate and accessible summaries, charts, and tables for internal reports and briefings.
  • Present findings and insights to the Project Manager and, where appropriate, to The Staff College’s senior leadership team.
  • Contribute to written reports, proposals, and presentations shared with partners and stakeholders.

    General Support

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across The Staff College to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Provide general project and administrative support as required.
Details
Dates: April - June (approx)
Hours: Flexible but around 7-10 hours per week
Location: Hybrid (Manchester based)
 
This role will be for up to 75 hours work. 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who have: 

Essential

  • Relevant subject expertise such as data analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and an organised, methodical approach to work.
  • Confidence working with data and numerical information.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly, both in writing and verbally, to non-technical audiences.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

    Desirable

  • Experience using surveys, research tools, or evaluation frameworks.
  • An interest in leadership development, children’s services, or public and community leadership.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation or reporting tools.

    Development Opportunity

  • Practical experience of research and evaluation in a values-led organisation.
  • Exposure to senior leaders and system partners.
  • Development of core skills in data analysis, presentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Regular support and feedback from experienced professionals.
