Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role .

The role sits within the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU) https://mmuperu.co.uk/who-we-are/ in the School of Sociology and Criminology. PERU is a multidisciplinary team including evaluators, economists, sociologists and criminologists.

Purpose of the role

  1. Support the PERU management team to plan and deliver external communications across key projects, including themed outputs, news, events, publications and the annual report. This includes preparing and formatting content for public release.
  2. Work with the PERU leadership team and senior researchers to maintain and update the PERU website and social media channels. Content will cover areas such as criminal justice, youth justice, education, social work, welfare, homelessness, public sector reform, longitudinal child wellbeing research, relational public services and social policy evaluation.
 
Dates: April 2026 - June 2026, initially subject to increase
Hours: Up to 16 hours per week
Location: LPERU Office, 3rd Floor, Geoffrey Manton Building
 Key Tasks

Research and communications

• Manage and update the PERU website and social media channels, ensuring content is current, accurate and easy to navigate
• Create high quality written and visual content, including articles, blogs, reports, infographics and short videos
• Produce the PERU annual report
• Work with PERU staff to ensure projects, outputs and news items have an online presence
• Promote publications and outputs to relevant audiences including policy makers, practitioners and researchers            
• Maintain records of PERU outputs and publications                                                                                                                    • Carry out quality checks such as testing links and reviewing content accuracy

Team and stakeholder engagement

• Attend PERU team meetings
• Liaise with internal colleagues
• Maintain a professional image in all communications

General responsibilities

• Take ownership of your work while contributing to team delivery

• Support environmental sustainability and value for money in your work
• Undertake other duties in line with the role as agreed with your manager

Liaison and Networking
Present research to the team and in appropriate articles for publication, such as academic/professional journals or conferences.
 Participate in internal and external partnerships and networks in order to aid the dissemination of research findings, to share best practice, and to enhance the reputation of the University.
 
 Miscellaneous

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 
Essential

• Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines
• Experience of communications, marketing or event support
• Strong written and verbal English
• Good IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems and social media platforms
• Understanding of analytics to monitor online performance
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with a range of stakeholders
• Ability to produce clear and engaging content for professional audiences
• Experience communicating complex information to different audiences
• Knowledge of at least one of the following areas through study or work: criminal justice, youth justice, education, social work, welfare, homelessness, public sector reform, longitudinal child wellbeing research, relational public services or social policy evaluation
• Ability to use initiative and solve problems
• High attention to detail
• Self motivated and reliable
