Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 

The Creative Practice and Galleries Technical Team is looking for 6 students to assist with the upcoming prestigious Art School Degree Show 2026, and to support the team with workshops, artist studio installation, and preparation activities across Arts and Humanities buildings.

Start date: w/c 20 April
Finish date: 5 June 2026

Working Pattern (Term Time – 16 hours per week):

  • Working Pattern 1:
    Monday & Tuesday: 9:00am – 4:00pm
    Wednesday: 9:00am – 1:00pm
  • Working Pattern 2:
    Wednesday: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
    Thursday & Friday: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Location:
Working across all Arts and Humanities buildings, based in Grosvenor West Gallery Workshop

Relevant Courses:
Art and Design

 Duties Include:

  • Responding to student queries in the workspaces and signposting to technical staff where appropriate
  • Assisting technical staff with the installation of creative outputs, including artworks, products, and craft
  • Recognising health and safety hazards and reporting them to technical staff
  • Assisting with manual handling of materials used for the show build
  • Supporting technical staff in setting up equipment within workspaces
  • Preparing exhibition spaces for student exhibits
  • Prioritising the safekeeping of students’ artworks
  • Cleaning, tidying, and organising workspaces as required

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 

  • Have a desire to work within Galleries and associated creative industries
  • Understand ethical concerns when handling artwork
  • Apply physical dexterity and care when handling artwork and associated materials
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have an awareness of health and safety 
  • Have good customer service skills
  • Show enthusiasm for creating engaging exhibitions and supporting artists’ work
