Job role: Research Assistant for Horizon Europe - SoGreen Project
 
Job Description:
 The Research Assistant will support the Horizon Europe SoGreen project, which focuses on understanding the social aspects of the green transition. That means how ordinary people, communities, and workplaces are affected by environmental policies, climate action, and shifts toward sustainable living.
 
The postholder will work closely with the research team to develop, refine, and test a survey instrument related to the green transition, using Qualtrics. Responsibilities will include assisting with questionnaire design, ensuring items are clear, conducting data checks, implementing improvements based on data checks. The role also involves implementing the survey on Qualtrics, troubleshooting technical issues in Qualtrics, managing survey logic, and supporting quality assurance processes to ensure the survey is ready for fieldwork. Additionally, the role will require setting up meetings between Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and University College Dublin (UCD) teams.
 
The Research Assistant will be part of a network of academic and policy partners and gain insight into the workings of a large, interdisciplinary European research project.
 
This internship will appeal to students with an interest in:

- Social inequalities and community experiences

- Working on international research projects

Hours of Work: 6 hours per week

  • Practical experience applying quantitative research methods in a real academic project
  • Skills in questionnaire development and survey design
  • Qualtrics programming and survey management
  • Insight into how research teams make decisions about data quality and methodology
  • Experience managing survey logic, testing, and data accuracy checks
  • Enhanced time management, organisation, and independent working skills
  • Experience collaborating with academic staff and European project partners
 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students from the Department of Sociology (and Criminology) who meet the following requirements: 

Essential

  • Have foundational knowledge of research methods, including survey design principles (gained through Level 4/5 methods modules)
  • Have some experience using Qualtrics or a similar survey platform
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Possess good communication and organisational skills
  • Can work independently and meet deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience working with quantitative data (e.g., SPSS, basic data cleaning)
Please Note - As part of the 2026 Sociology Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement and those who have not worked via Jobs4Students previously. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
