The main purpose of this role is to provide research support to colleagues and support staff for the" Grassroots organizing for a just energy transition:
The case of wind farm development projects on Scotland’s Isle of Lewis by assisting with research data collection and analysis, and the dissemination of findings to appropriate research groups and contacts related to the project.
Support the development of new areas in the field of sustainability and just transition.
Dates: 20/05/2026 - 21/07/2026
Hours: 16 hours per week. There is a flexible working pattern to be agreed with the researchers
Location: remote working, with some on campus meetings.
Key Tasks
Research Activities
Your primary role will be to support the research team through the collection and management of qualitative and secondary data. You will be required to:
- Transcribe qualitative interviews accurately and in a timely manner
- Identify, organise, and store relevant secondary data
- Monitor and keep track of relevant events and contextual information to inform the research team
- Plan, prioritise, and organise your own workload and resources to meet agreed objectives and deadlines
- Conduct literature and database searches using standard academic techniques and methods
- Write up findings from your own research activities and prepare materials for presentation to the research team and relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to the production of research reports and publications
- Use initiative and judgement to develop appropriate techniques in order to facilitate research work and resolve problems affecting the achievement of objectives and deadlines
Liaison and Networking
- Present findings to the team and other stakeholders; and in appropriate articles for publication, such as academic/professional journals or conferences where appropriate.
- Participate in internal and external partnerships and networks in order to aid the dissemination of research findings, to share best practice, and to enhance the reputation of the University.
Service Provision
- Proactively and effectively engage with quality assurance procedures to ensure that University standards are upheld.
- Collaborate with academic colleagues on research development and future direction.
Team Working
- Actively participate as a member of the research team, offering general help and guidance where appropriate
- Attend research team meetings to proactively contribute to decision making.
