Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
We are looking for a student photographer for 'Tell Your ‘Book Discovery’ Stories', a children’s writing and illustration workshop taking place at Z-arts, Hulme. The event is the final day of a three-day workshop series where young people and adults aged 16–30 will develop original writing and illustration inspired by moments when they “fell in love” with books.

The role will involve capturing natural, respectful footage of participants taking part in creative activities, including writing, drawing, group discussion and interaction with the lead artist and researchers.

The photographer will create staged portraits with each participant to capture their personality and creative identity. All photography should be participant-centred and sensitive.
 
Final deliverables will include 10–15 edited event images and 3–5 edited portrait options per participant, supplied as high-quality JPEGs suitable for web and print via OneDrive.

Event time: 10:00am–3:30pm
Briefing time: 1 hour (10am)
 Photography time: 11:00am–3:30pm, 4.5 hours
Editing time: 2.25 hours
Travel time: 2 hours
Total hours: 9.75 hours

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students.
 
The successful applicant will be expected to provide their own equipment. 
 

Essential criteria:

  • Interest in photography and editing images
  • Some experience photographing events, people, or group activities. This may be through university work, volunteering, or personal projects
  • Comfortable capturing natural, respectful images of people and activities.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience photographing talks, workshops, or live events
  • Experience working with young people
  • Confidence speaking to people to support relaxed portrait photography, or willingness to take gentle direction from the event lead where this is more appropriate.
