The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
The University is launching a new project to support students with lived experience of the criminal justice system to pursue higher education, providing pre-entry and on-course support to help them succeed at university.
We are looking for a small group of student ambassadors to support the project, engaging with prospective and current students to help them prepare for and navigate university life.
For this role, we are particularly looking for students who understand the challenges these learners may face. This may be because you have:
- Personally been subject to criminal justice processes
- Been impacted by a parent, guardian or sibling being subject to such processes
However, it is not essential that you have lived experience of the criminal justice system. We also welcome applications from students who have an interest in supporting these learners.
The role of a Criminal Justice Ambassador may include:
1. Inspiring young people and acting as a role model at specifically targeted events, including:
- Small campus visits
- Mentoring projects
- Network meetings
2. Taking part in tasks such as:
- Speaking confidentially about your experience of the education system
- Promoting higher education as a viable option for those with the aptitude and desire to attend university
3. Taking part in discussions with small groups of people about your experience of university.
Applicants do not need to be able to carry out all of these tasks straight away or feel comfortable with every aspect of the role. However, applicants would be expected to be able to carry out most of these tasks.
This role provides an opportunity to work alongside colleagues in Manchester Met Student Services and the School of Sociology and Criminology.
Hours, dates and pay: Although this role is advertised at the standard rate, the hours and pay will vary depending on each project.
