Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
 
The main purpose of this role is to provide support to colleagues and support staff for the JEI Summer School activities by assisting, and where necessary taking the lead, with research data collection and analysis during activities scheduled on the Department of Engineering, Natural/Life Sciences and Computing and Maths, similarly like during lab demonstration activities.

A support of three postgraduate students per session (one day, i.e. 7.4 hours, 9:00-16:00) are required for the activities run in their home departments. Each activity will be coordinated by lead academic/technician and supported by students. The schedule is as follow:
 
  • Tuesday 21st of July - Engineering Workshop run by Anthony Gregory, DB 1.34
  • Wednesday 22nd of July - Natural Sciences Workshop run by Dr Ian Ingram, DB T6.39; Life Sciences DEN workshop run by Dr Natasha Hadgraft, DB G.46
  • Thursday 23rd of July - Computing and Maths Workshop run by Dr Masoud Ghalaii, DB1.34
 
Please state in your application which day/workshop you are applying for. We need three PhD students per session/day.

Tuesday 21st of July - Department of Engineering
9:15 - Meet JEI Staff and Students at Dalton reception and bring them to DB1.34
9:30 - 11:45 - Facilitate the Engineering Workshop run by Anthony Gregory (Heavy Engineering Technical team)
12:00 - 12:30 - JEI staff will meet with Prof Jenny Watling in DB1.34
12:30 - 13:30 - Take JEI staff and students for lunch somewhere convenient close to campus. Lunch is no provided everyone pays for themselves.
13:30 - 15:30 - Engineering workshop continues
 
 Wednesday 22nd of July - Department of Natural/Life Sciences
9:15 - Meet JEI Staff and Students at Dalton reception and bring them to DB T6.39
9:30 - 11:45 - Help facilitating the Natural Science workshop run by Dr Ian Ingram
12:00 - Bring JEI staff and students to Dalton reception to meet International Team who will take them to lunch.
14:00 - 15:30 - Meet JEI staff and students at Dalton Reception and take them to the DEN G.46 for Life Science workshop run by Dr Natasha Hadgraft
 
Thursday 23rd of July - Department of Computing and Maths
9:00 - Meet JEI Staff and Students at Dalton reception and bring them to DB1.34
9:30 - 12:00 - Help facilitating Computing and Maths Workshop run by Dr Masoud Ghalaii
12:00 - 13:00 - Take JEI staff and students for lunch somewhere convenient close to campus. Lunch is no provided everyone pays for themselves.
13:00 - 15:30 - Computing and Maths workshop continues

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 
Essential

* Studying for a post graduate degree in the subject equivalent to the department the workshops are hosted in
* Friendly, positive and team building attitude with ability to lead larger cohorts of students
* Ability to use initiative and creativity to solve problems and lead students to find solutions
