There is an opportunity to join the Faculty Health and Safety Panel to represent students that study within the Faculty of Health and Education as a Faculty Health and Safety Student Representative. Manchester Metropolitan University wants to listen to students’ ideas and opinions about all aspects of your experience. We believe this will improve how we support our students in having safe and healthy studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. It will also ensure any best practice is recognised and replicated to other areas of the University to give all students a great experience
Duties may include:
- Gather information in different communities you are involved in to aid in your role as Faculty Student Representative on the Faculty Health and Safety Panel.
- Discuss anything you feel appropriate for the panel members to hear, including any discussion or comments with the chair and other members of the panel.
- Contribute to the rest of the panel meeting to ensure the student viewpoint is promoted which will lead to a more successful panel discussion.
- Any actions identified logged with the aim to close the action by the next meeting. You may receive actions to take away and complete with your fellow students.
What the role would involve?
Health and Safety relates to regulations and procedures intended to prevent accident or injury in the university or any university related events or trips. The Health and Safety panel helps inform the Faculty of incidents, accidents and all relevant information to help everyone be as safe as possible.
So, we would like the successful applicant to consider the following to bring to the Faculty Health and Safety Panel:
- What good practice have you seen personally, or been informed about by other students?
- What health and safety concerns are you aware of, or been informed about by other students?
- Any suggestions or ideas for improvement relating to Health & Safety that could be made within the Faculty.
Being a key part of the health and safety consultation process, you will also benefit from learning more about the Faculty from a Health and Safety point of view and be able to feedback to the student community. This role will enable you to develop key oral communication skills, an ability to read and understand committee reports and work collaboratively with senior academic and professional services colleagues.

4 Meetings per year – 13 hours total
1 hour (training/ induction)
Hours of Work per meeting: 3 hours (1 hour - prep time for each meeting for engagement, consultation and feedback to students & 2 hours per meeting with committee)
