Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
  

About the Roles
The Faculty of Education is looking for friendly and enthusiastic students to lead fun, engaging Literacy and Oracy sessions for Year 4 and 5 pupils visiting the university on Saturday mornings. You’ll be running sessions of around 20 children, supported by classroom assistants, and helping to make their time on campus exciting and inspiring.

There are 2 roles that you can apply for.  
 

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading interactive Literacy and Oracy activities

  • Working with and directing classroom assistants to support learning

  • Keeping the sessions positive, safe, and enjoyable for all pupils

  • Using your classroom management skills to keep things running smoothly

  • Sharing quick feedback with the Programme Co-ordinator and Director when needed

 

When you’ll be needed

  • Saturdays, 7th December 2026 – 13th February 2027 (not including 26th Dec and 2nd Jan)

  • Time: 8am – 1pm (includes planning & prep)

  • Safeguarding Training: Thursday 5th November, 5pm – 6.30pm 

Person Specification

Class Teachers
 This role is only open to current Manchester Met PGCE Primary & BA Primary Education level 6 students who demonstrate the following in their application: 
 
  •  A high level of professionalism
  • Clear commitment to the programme
  • Evidence of working with children
  • Strong organisational and time-keeping skills
  • Ability to work with a curriculum outline and being able to creatively adapt it to the children’s needs.
  • Ability to deploy classroom assistants effectively 
 
Associate Teachers
This role is open to students who are familiar with the structure and running of the School of Children's Futures and have had previous experience of teaching primary-aged children.
 
  •  A high level of professionalism
  • Clear commitment to the programme
  • Evidence of working with children 
  • Strong organisational and time-keeping skills
  • Ability to work with a curriculum outline and being able to creatively adapt it to the children’s needs.
  • Ability to work with others in the classroom
  • Have had experience of working with School of Children's Futures in the past, either in a paid or voluntary role.
