This project develops AI-supported interactive learning content for a Level 6 Data Analyst degree apprenticeship module in the Department of Computing and Mathematics, funded by the Manchester Met Education Practice Fund. The aim is to help apprentices keep learning between class sessions — whether they have missed a session or need to revisit material they found difficult — using interactive H5P activities, scenario-based workplace simulations and AI-assisted content generation.
The work comes in three parts: an intensive design phase across late September and October, where the activities and templates are built; deployment and monitoring through the module pilot to December, where the activities are used, watched and revised; and a consolidation phase in January, where what has been learned is turned into a reusable toolkit for colleagues across the Faculty.
Student partners are genuine collaborators on this work, not assistants. You will help decide which workplace scenarios are worth simulating; co-write scenario narratives and the decision points within branching activities; design the questions and feedback within activities, including reflective prompts and questions targeting common misconceptions; build activities in H5P using Interactive Video and contents, Question Set and Branching Scenario content types; use AI tools to draft scenario content and review it for accuracy and usefulness; embed activities in the virtual learning environment and test them; help prepare learning engagement data for weekly analysis during the pilot; critique draft activities produced by the project team and make the case for changes; and help produce reusable templates and guidance notes for the project toolkit.
Your contribution will be credited in the project outputs, which may include a conference presentation or published toolkit.
Dates: Monday 21 September 2026 (indicative — subject to completion of recruitment) – Friday 22 January 2027
The start date is indicative and may move depending on completion of recruitment. The end date and the total of 75 hours are fixed; if the start moves, the hours are redistributed across the remaining period rather than reduced.
Times: Flexible around studies, agreed in advance with the Project Lead. Up to 10 hours per week during the design phase, approximately 3–4 hours per week for deployment and monitoring to mid-December, then a block of toolkit work in January. A fortnightly project meeting at a fixed time to be agreed with the successful applicants.
75 hours in total per post, worked to an uneven pattern: approximately 3 hours paid induction at the start; approximately 25 hours during the design phase across late September and October (maximum 10 hours in any one week); approximately 3–4 hours per week for deployment and monitoring to mid-December; and approximately 17 hours of toolkit consolidation in January. Hours are flexible around your studies and agreed in advance with the Project Lead.
Details of briefing/training: A paid induction before work begins, covering an introduction to the project, H5P authoring, access to the virtual learning environment, and the University's health and safety and data protection requirements. Approximately 3 hours, held online, and counted within the 75-hour total. Further training provided during the role as needed, all of it paid.
Location: Mostly remote, with some on-campus working. You must be based in the UK throughout the role. Attendance at a fortnightly project meeting is required.
