Job Description

This role is open to current Manchester Met students who will be enrolled during the 2026/27 academic year and have successfully completed a Placement Year.

The Placement Peer Mentoring Scheme (PPMS) supports second-year students preparing for placements by connecting them with final-year students who have completed one. As a Placement Peer Mentor, you will share your experience, lead monthly group sessions, and encourage students to engage with placement opportunities and support services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one mentoring session per month following the PPMS programme.
  • Share placement experiences and practical advice.
  • Support students' confidence, motivation and resilience during their placement search.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive mentoring environment.
  • Signpost students to relevant university support services.
  • Track attendance, provide updates to the Placement Team, and attend required training and check-ins.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and safeguarding standards.

Scheme Details

  • Duration: October 2026 to June 2027
  • Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month (preparation and delivery)

Training

  • Introduction to the Mentor Scheme (online or in person)
  • RISE Learning "Be a Mentor" self-study package (approximately 10 hours) 

Person Specification

This role is open to current Manchester Met students who will be enrolled during the 2026/27 academic year and have successfully completed a Placement Year.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and active listening skills.
  • Confident supporting students and facilitating small group discussions.
  • Reliable, organised and able to manage commitments.
  • Comfortable sharing placement experiences professionally.
  • Competent using Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, work professionally and signpost students to appropriate support services.

Desirable:

  • Experience in mentoring, peer support, student representation or ambassador roles.
  • Experience delivering presentations, workshops or events.
  • Knowledge of placement recruitment, employability support and platforms such as CareerHub or LinkedIn.
