Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
Are you interested in performance? Would you like to be involved in a dynamic research environment and to take a key role in planning its research activity? The Performance Research Group (PRG), based in the Department of Art & Performance, is currently planning activities including an away day/writing retreat and a showcase of work-in-progress – PRG Presents. The intern will support the group’s leadership team in planning the away day/writing retreat (June) and managing the showcase event (July) as well as helping to develop our websiteIn addition, the intern will maintain social media profiles for the PRG to share what we do and demonstrate our research ethos, and coordinate with members about video and photo documentation of their work. This will be an exciting role for someone who is creative, dynamic and interested in the arts and how researchers work together.
 
Details of briefing/training: We will meet the successful applicant before placement starts to discuss the role and any training required to undertake the work. Some basic computer skills will be required as well as social media and web skills for marketing events and sharing information about the research activity of the PRG.
 

Duties:

  • Plan and organise an away day for Performance Research Group members
  • Contact members of PRG with information and updates about the away day
  • Promote PRG events and activity to the university and the wider public
  • Update PRG website and maintain our social media profiles 
  • Liaise with team to manage showcase event. 
  • Work with team to curate and schedule work for the showcase
  • Work with team to organise event including technical support, planning, logistics etc.
  • Document the event for website and social media etc.
  • Maintain and curate PRG display case with video, signage etc.

Hours per week: 10
  
Students will be expected to develop the following skills and experiences while carrying out this internship
 
  • Collaborate with staff and students and external artists/industry/academics
  • Curate showcase event within the timeframe as well as display case
  • Create an exciting and dynamic way of promoting the event for students and staff
  • Learn new skills such as design software, video editing etc.
  • Design identity & layout for showcase event
  • Promote PRG activity with social media posts, connecting industry and engaging audience
Please Note - As part of the 2025 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placementHowever, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
   
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2025 Student Internship offering. 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
 

- An evidenced working knowledge and experience of art and performance.

- An understanding of administering events and communicating with staff.

- Experience of planning events which are student- and/or public-facing.

- Experience of marketing, design and/or promoting activity on social media/online.

- Experience with making or promoting creative projects is preferred.

- Experience with social media and web management is preferred.

- Experience with working with Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
 
 Enthusiasm and independent self-motivation.
