Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student intern to join our EDI team at the Department of Languages, Information and Communication. The EDI and Assessment Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our efforts to enhance equality, diversity, and inclusion within our institution and implementing the RIPIAG (Racially Inclusive Practice in Assessment Guidance) Framework across programmes and units.
 
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in EDI initiatives, develop professional skills, engage with pedagogical research-led practice, and contribute to meaningful change. The intern will work with the EDI Lead and Programme Leaders to produce marking criteria templates based on the RIPIAG Framework and the University guidelines, in order to produce clear and simple templates that can be applied through the programmes. Working collaboratively with other areas of the department and the Student Voice Group, the intern will contribute to organising a showcase of best practice.
 
Hours are flexible and the student can negotiate days, weeks and working patterns. Although the post is intended to be an on-campus position, there is some flexibility and some of these hours could be done remotely.

Please Note - As part of the 2025 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placementHowever, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
   
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2025 Student Internship offering. 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
  • Currently enrolled in Level 5 or Level 6 of a degree program in either the Departments of Languages, Information or Communications or the Department of English
  •  Strong performance in academic writing, evidenced by good grades in essays, reports, or other written assignments (2.1 or above).
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. This can be evidenced via a reflection of personal experience, volunteering experience, work outside the university, etc.
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences and convey information effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, and external partners.
  • Willingness to contribute to a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with online collaboration tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams).
  • Experience organising any kind of event or producing visual work is desirable but not an excluding requirement, as guidance will be provided.
  • These should be evidence through a written statement about the suitability of the candidate for the position and how they meet these criteria.
