Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
  

The Central Outreach team are seeking to recruit students (with an interest in Creative Writing) to welcome a group of school students onto campus. Priority for these roles will go to people who have worked previously with the Poetry Library or as a schools ambassador. The successful candidates will meet the teenagers, accompany them to workshop sessions and lead a walking group tour around a pre-determined route of the campus. 

This is an opportunity to shadow and support experienced writers leading a workshop with young people. 

You will be expected to provide a positive and informative perspective on all aspects of studying here at Manchester Met and being a part of the Manchester Met University community.

 

 Responsibilities:

  •  Assist the workshop leader in the creative writing workshop – by participating and assisting pupils where necessary. 
  • Answer questions about university, direct complex questions to Outreach and teaching staff.
 

You will receive full briefing to ensure you can support and guide students successfully and confidently and support workshop leaders during the workshop activity.

Person Specification

To be a successful, you will need to be enthusiastic, reliable and enjoy working as part of a team. You must explain in your application form how you meet the following requirements of this role: 

  • Be outgoing and confident
  •  Good with young people
  •  Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with staff and visitors.
  •  Ability to undertake any role with a positive and professional manner. 
  • Evidence of a responsible attitude and the ability to show initiative. 
  • Able to contribute and work effectively in a team. 
  • A positive attitude to university life. 

Essential

  • Familiar with the Campus layout of Geoffrey Manton, Poetry Library, All Saints, Library, Business School, SODA, The Salutation, Lowry building etc.
  •  General knowledge of Information and Guidance (IAG) and able to share own experiences.
  •  Confident when working with groups. 

Desirable

  • Priority for these roles will go to people who have worked previously with the Poetry Library or as a school’s ambassador.
  •  An interest in poetry/creative writing, preferably a writer yourself.
  •  Passionate about helping young people discover higher education opportunities and options available
