Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
Research Assistant/tech support - Masters’ level or above ideally – media student, or relevant database experience.
 

The main purpose of this role is to provide research support to colleagues and support staff for the Circular Society Innovations for place-based equitable, inclusive & environmentally sustainable living project by assisting with research data collection and analysis, and the dissemination of findings to appropriate research groups and contacts related to the project.

We are seeking a reliable and organised individual to assist our team in securing consent from various circular society organisations and projects to use their online content (logos, images, text) for inclusion in an interactive network map. This map will highlight the activities, objectives, and impacts of circular society innovations, enhancing collaboration, visibility, and providing valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and community organisations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact organisations/projects (via email and phone) to request consent for the use of their website content (logos, images, text/descriptions) – ethical protocols and templates in place.
  • Clearly communicate the purpose and benefits of participating in our network mapping initiative.
  • Maintain an organised and updated log of communications, responses, and consent.
  • Write concise profiles/vignettes for each consenting initiative (using a word doc template).
  • Upload finalised profiles, images, and logos to the KUMU online mapping platform, ensuring accurate representation.
  • Occasionally, you may be required to follow up with initiatives to clarify any queries or obtain missing information as required.
 
Dates: 2 June - 31 July
Hours: 7.5 hours per week for 6-8 weeks
Location: Business School 2.01 or at home by agreement with Principal Investigator

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the criteria below:
 

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong organisational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Experience or confidence in reaching out to external groups and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and digital tools like KUMU for data input.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably manage deadlines.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with KUMU or similar mapping/networking platforms (training available).
  • Interest or background knowledge in circular economy or social innovation.
