Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
This event is a celebration day for Mother Tongue Other Tongue, a multi-lingual poetry competition for 8-18 year olds, who will be attending on the day to take part in a creative writing workshop and to celebrate the competition winners.
 
All duties associated with setting up and clearing down of event, including: registration desk, checking seminar spaces before and after the workshops, assisting workshop leaders and staff as required. 
 
When school groups arrive, ambassadors will be allocated a group and will be a mentor/guide for that group for the duration of the event.  You will stay with the group in the workshop, joining in the activity to encourage engagement and supporting the workshop leader to ensure a successful session.  
 
After the event, you will ensure your group leaves the building safely, before returning to help clear down the event. 
 
Date: Thursday 3rd July 2025
Hours of Work: 11:00am - 3:30pm
Details of briefing/training: Full briefing will be given on the day
 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
  • Applicants should have an interest in creative writing and/or poetry and/or languages.  
  • Be willing to get involved in the workshop
  • Have a genuine interest in mentoring young people.    
Priority will be given to people already familiar with the Poetry Library and with experience of working as a student ambassador.
