Job Description

Please note, this opportunity is only available to Manchester Met 2024 graduates who will be based in the UK for the duration of this role. You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2024 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students.

Background
ShapeShifter is a new, small publishing enterprise launching in autumn 2025. We publish progressive and environmentally focused picture books for both children and adults, with plans to release 2–3 titles per year. Uniquely, our books will not be available through traditional retailers, either online or offline. Instead, each title will be financed through pre-sales (or "pledges") using crowdfunding tactics that engage customers—referred to as "donors"—who are drawn to our rich and meaningful creative content, strong social and environmental values, and collaborations with diverse, including emerging, writers and illustrators.

Campaigns and pre-sales will be facilitated via www.shape-shifter.net, our forthcoming, sophisticated B2C e-commerce and community-building platform built on Squarespace, which includes crowdfunding capabilities. We will also promote our titles through Instagram and other progressive social platforms, as well as through partnerships with influencers and organisations that share our values.

 Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting ShapeShifter’s publishing launch by contributing to the development of the brand identity and website, crafting marketing campaigns and content for the first two titles, and leading the launch of ShapeShifter’s social media channels. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the public face of a new publishing enterprise and engage audiences through creative, values-driven storytelling and digital outreach.

Key Tasks
  • Collaborating with the publisher and an illustrator to develop the ShapeShifter brand and brand guidelines
  • Learning to use Squarespace for Business, including its crowdfunding functionality
  • Project managing a website designer or agency to deliver outcomes within the timeframe outlined in the brief
  • Conducting research and contributing to the development of customer personas, customer journeys, marketing funnels, SEO strategies, and paid advertising plans
  • Setting up and launching ShapeShifter’s social media channels
  • Creating online, social media, and email campaigns and content for the first two titles in preparation for launch
  • Liaising with the writers and illustrators of the first two titles to brief, schedule, and secure campaign content
  • Engaging with like-minded children’s publishers to source and promote similarly progressive and environmentally themed picture books
