 Job Description

 This role is for 8 weeks' worth of teaching on the Level 6 undergraduate unit Language Attitudes, to take place in Semester 1 of the 2025-2026 academic session. This teaching role is suitable for a Graduate Teaching Assistant. The post-holder will work closely with the unit leader, Dr Ian Cushing, and support will be given where needed.

Expertise in language ideologies, language attitudes, and critical discourse analysis is particularly welcomed. 

Teaching is for 3 hours a week (one session lasting 2 hours; one session lasting 1 hour). Payment includes an hour's worth of preparation time for each hour taught. 

Dates: w/c 29 September - w/c 8 December

Hours of work: 48 hours of work available in total

Details of briefing/training: to be arranged with Dr Cushing prior to teaching beginning.

• Teaching experience in a higher education setting, ideally on language/linguistics programmes or related cognate disciplines;
• A student-centred approach to higher education teaching;
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills;
• Expert knowledge of research related to language attitudes and language ideologies;
• The ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet objectives;
• The ability to use initiative when dealing with a wide range of issues and problems;
• A degree or appropriate equivalent experience in your subject area.
