Design Induction Onboarding Ambassadors

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. 

The BA Hons International Design Top Up Degree are seeking enthusiastic and approachable Design Induction Onboarding Ambassadors to support the successful integration of newly enrolled Level 6 international design students. This role is an excellent opportunity to develop communication, and intercultural skills while contributing to a welcoming and inclusive university environment.

Role Overview

As an Induction Ambassador, you will provide a friendly and supportive presence for international students as they transition into university life. You will assist with both design-specific and general induction activities, helping students feel confident and connected from the start.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guided support during scheduled induction sessions (1 hour per week)
• Offer ad hoc assistance via email and in-person interactions (1 hour per week)
• Help students navigate university systems, resources, and design program expectations
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all new students

Role Details

• Number of Positions Available: 3
• Duration: 8 weeks
• Start Date: Wednesday, 25th September
• Hours: 2 hours per week (Wednesdays), totalling 14 hours
• Training Session: Monday, 15th September at 12:00 PM, Lowrie Café

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Design Students who meet the following requirements - 

You will be expected to guide students on induction activities that you will have already at least 1 or 2 years’ experience of.

Ideally you will be an outgoing and self-led level 6 student from BA Hons Interior Design, BA Hons Product Design or BA Hons Graphic Design, but we will consider confident and organised level 5 students.

You must be able to spare 2 hours a week for the first 7 weeks of term (plus the two hour briefing day on Monday 15th September).

Tasks may include things such as:

• Managing a message board
• Introducing academic terms (such as development documents, & reflective writing) at university and showing student work (that we will provide).
• Demonstrating top-up print cards
• Teaching others to use the wide-format printers
• Help with Adobe access
• Accessing workshop inductions
• Booking equipment, rooms or other facilities.
• Leading university tours
• Being a general friendly contact for other queries.
