MMU Sport Coach (Athletics, Netball and Dance)

MMU Sport are looking to recruit a number of Athletics, Netball and Dance coaches to help drive the success of our clubs forward. You will act as the lead coaching contact for your respective team and work alongside the club committee to deliver effective training sessions in line with the students’ wants and needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct engaging and effective training sessions

  • Develop game strategies and prepare the team for matches (where applicable)

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during training

Working pattern/hours:

  • Coaching falls in line with the University’s academic year. All coaching contracts are for a period of 23 weeks, running from the end of September to the start of April each year.

  • Minimum 2 hours coaching a week. For most of our MMU Sport clubs, this takes place on a Monday evening, with some training on a Thursday.

  • You will also be required to have a presence on match days where applicable. This comprises 6 home fixtures and 6 away fixtures on a Wednesday between the hours of 13:00 and 20:00. You will be paid 3 hours for each fixture.

  • We are open to discussing arrangements for fixtures should you be successful in obtaining the role.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students.
 
  • Planning and Delivery: Design and run safe, engaging sports sessions, teaching specific skills, tactics, and techniques relevant to the sport.
  •  Performance Management: Track participant performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide constructive feedback and advice for improvement.
  •  Training Programmes: Develop personalised and advanced training programmes tailored to individuals and teams to help them achieve their potential.
  • Athlete Support: Motivate and inspire participants, provide advice on nutrition and lifestyle, and offer support at events and competitions.
  •  Administrative Tasks: Maintain records of participant progress, manage equipment, and handle other related paperwork.
  •  Promotional Activities: Assist with sports promotion and development, and for self-employed coaches, market their own services.
  • Role Modelling: Act as a role model, promoting fair play, discipline, and team spirit among participants.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Excellent knowledge of the sport, combined with strong teaching, communication, and analytical skills.
  •  Interpersonal Abilities: The ability to build rapport, provide encouragement, and foster a positive atmosphere.
  •  Organisational Skills: Good organisational skills to manage sessions, events, and administrative duties.
  •  Qualifying Certifications: Depending on the role, minimum qualifications such as the UKCC Level 1 or 2 certificates in coaching may be required.
