The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
The main purpose of this role is to provide research support to colleagues for the CoSeC "Sustainable Computing" Fellowship by assisting with research data collection and analysis, and the dissemination of findings to appropriate groups related to the project. In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the community interactivity of the Drupal-based Green Software Portal (https://greencompute.uk/) and updating materials relating to the environmental impact of AI.
The successful student will have experience of maintaining a Drupal site, including security and customisations. The students should be able to write software to a high quality, be able to debug and deploy the software, and to be able critique choices of software.
The successful student will able to take a topic and undertake a thorough literature survey without further guidance, to write this up formally, adding some interpretation of their findings, and being able to identify ‘gaps’ in what they have surveyed.
Communication is key to the success of this project. The successful student will be able to write up a short report regarding the design, implementation, deployment and use of the software; and to be able to draft sections for research papers regarding their input (literature survey & software). The successful student will be a self-starter and work diligently throughout, usually on their own, with (e.g.) weekly written reports prior to a short in-person meeting.
Dates: Start Monday 3 Nov for 16 weeks (with agreed break over Christmas period)
