The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
This role is to support the visual development of a Historic England Research Report, the main output of an AHRC Innovation Scholars secondment. The appointed student will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and producing high-quality, high-resolution diagrams that communicate ideas clearly and consistently across the report. The final publication will be publicly accessible via the Historic England Research Reports platform (see: https://historicengland.org.uk/research/results/reports/), and the successful student will be credited for their contribution in the final report.
The role will involve:
-
Identifying where diagrams would enhance clarity and accessibility of the existing report text.
-
Researching and gathering relevant precedents to inform and propose a coherent and consistent visual approach for the report diagrams.
-
Conception and development of architectural and conceptual diagrams (e.g. design strategies for heritage sites, relationships between stakeholders, symbolic or spatial elements).
-
Production of a coherent set of high-resolution illustrations all in a consistent style suitable for publication.
-
Communicating effectively with the lead researcher to discuss concepts, respond to feedback, and refine outputs iteratively.
-
Using diagrammatic communication skills to translate complex written material into clear, accessible visual formats.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a sector-facing publication while advancing your portfolio with credited, published work. The role requires someone who is not only confident in diagram production but also skilled in the full process of researching, conceiving, developing, and finalising diagrams to a professional, publication-ready standard. Strong communication skills are essential - both in visual representation and professional collaboration.
