You will provide a friendly and professional peer-to-peer service to students living in university accommodation, to help them settle into life in halls of residence and provide face-to-face engagement and operational support as part of the Residential Services Team. As a Residential Life Ambassador, you will help build a sense of community by bringing students together in social situations through events and programme of active flat visits.
You will also be required to support at the university at open and visit days throughout the year, along with check in weekend for the new academic year.
Main tasks
* To interact with students both individually and in groups to encourage them to get involved in the events programme and other activities
* To attend and actively participate in an induction and ongoing training, fortnightly team meetings, termly progress meetings and any other meetings or training relevant to the post.
* To promote and deliver social, charitable and educational face to face and online events within the accommodation. This will include working as part of a team to deliver campaigns on various aspects of student life and wellbeing.
*To organise, promote and deliver events for students living in halls of residence on campus
*Conduct accommodation tours and provide support on information stands
* To communicate regularly with your team and respond to reasonable requests from Student Living staff in a timely fashion, as agreed at the start of the year.
* To ensure you observe University and Campus Services Policies and Procedures as communicated to you, including Health and Safety Policies.
* To promote and encourage a sense of community in halls of residence through a programme of active visiting during term 1and term 2.
*Appear in videos and photos for websites and digital screens
*Play an active role in department social media accounts including being on screen in videos and content creation
*Contribute to Res Life blogs and articles as requested
*Support staff working on reception and with general duties as required
*Support with team and departmental admin tasks
Special Features
This role is expected to be for a minimum of 95 hours over the academic year, primarily in terms one and two, this is subject to change. There may l be opportunity for additional work at on offer every week throughout the year including after exams and during the summer.
In this role you will be required to attend fortnightly team meetings
Work will be mainly during evenings and weekends.
Compulsory training will take place online and in person week commencing 1st September 2026 as well as further training during the role.
You will be required to work on arrivals weekend 19th/20th September 2026 welcoming students to the accommodation.
You will also be required to work on all open days and visit days (approx. 8 dates for second term dates tbc), confirmed dates are below, (through the list is not exhaustive):

You may choose to live in Man Met Accommodation as part of the role these would be flats with other second, third year or postgrad students in the following halls only: Archway, Dunham, Oxford Court and Warde.
Should you choose to live in Man Met Accommodation your licence agreement will commence before your training starts and dates will be finalised, nearer the time.
You would be required to support showing potential new student round the accommodation and making your room available for viewings.
Miscellaneous
* You have a legal duty, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure that you do not endanger yourself or anyone else by your acts or omissions. In addition, you must cooperate with the University on health and safety matters and must not interfere or misuse anything provided for health, safety and welfare purposes.

* You are expected to engage in the setting of objectives in order to assist in the monitoring and development of performance.
* You may be required to undertake a specific Health & Safety role, commensurate with your role, to support the University in meeting its statutory Health & Safety obligations.
* You have the responsibility to engage with the University’s commitment to Environmental Sustainability to reduce its waste, energy consumption and carbon footprint.
