Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

Manchester Poetry Library is recruiting a pool of Schools Poetry Library Ambassadors to work on school visits to the Poetry Library in the Grosvenor East Building. This role will be offered on a flexible basis, depending on event schedules and staffing needs. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with young people while supporting the Poetry Library.

Duties may include -

  • Acting as a Student Ambassador, welcoming visiting pupils and teachers attending university visit days and events as part of the Poetry Library schools’ programme.
  • Supporting creative workshops, taking part in workshops led by experienced practitioners alongside pupils (sometimes offering an opportunity to shadow professional writer/practitioners)
  • Delivering campus tours – sharing your experience as a student with visiting pupils to give them a sense of what being a student at Manchester Met University is like
  • Opportunities to lead Poetry Library tours and even creative workshops
  • Opportunities to take part in some of the extended schools outreach projects managed by the Poetry Library
  • Providing general event support to the Poetry Library team on creative outreach days – providing general ambassador support, such as welcoming groups, working on registration and general administrative help.

Please Note: Briefing and training relevant to individual events, including safeguarding training will be given and opportunities for more in-depth involvement offered as your time as a Schools Ambassador progresses with us.

Date(s): TBC
Hours of Work: Dependant on event schedule

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements -

  • Have a strong interest in working with young people
  • Ability to work well with others, adapting to unexpected challenges

Desirable

  • An interest in poetry, literature, and cultural events
  • An interest in working in education in some capacity in the future

Successful applicants will be added to our pool of Poetry Library Schools Ambassadors and will be  prioritised for paid roles, working events as and when they come up and according to your own availability and areas of interest.  A selection of dates will be circulated after appointments are made and as ad-hoc requests for school visits come in.
