Role Summary
We’re a small, independent interior design studio (located in Manchester’s Northern Quarter) looking for a Student Interior Design Intern to join us alongside their studies for 9 weeks. This is a hands-on, studio-based role where you’ll get a real insight into how an interior design practice works, from early concepts and material selection through to client presentations and project delivery. You’ll be working with our designers, supporting live projects, learning practical studio skills, and building confidence in a friendly, collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
During your designated time with Sheila Bird, your work with us will be varied, with key responsibilities including:
Design & Creative Support
- Helping create mood boards, concept visuals, and presentation layouts (using Adobe InDesign)
- Assisting with material, finish, furniture, and lighting selections
- Supporting designers with drawing packs and visuals (to your skill level on software)
- Organising and updating sample boards and studio resources
- 3D Model library support on SketchUp
Research & Sourcing
- Researching furniture, lighting, fabrics, finishes, and accessories
- Contacting suppliers for samples, brochures, and pricing
- Keeping track of product information and specifications
- Learning how products move from concept to specification
Studio Life & Projects
- Supporting day-to-day studio tasks
- Helping prepare documents for client presentations
- A chance to sit in on internal meetings and client meetings (if they happen in your designated time)
Learning on the Job
- Gaining exposure to real projects and timelines
- A chance to shadow designers on site visits (if appropriate)
- Receiving regular feedback and guidance to build your skills
- Developing an understanding of how a small design studio operates
