Student Internship 2026 - Live Production Assistant
 

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Intern to support our Live Productions Technical Team. This role provides hands-on experience across a range of theatre and live event environments. The intern will work closely with our Audio and Lighting Technicians as well as our Stage Manager, gaining valuable insight into professional production processes and backstage operations.

Over the course of the internship, the successful candidate will contribute to multiple theatre performances, including MST Degree Show productions and MFA performances, as well as support the team in delivering various conferencing and live events.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Stage Manager with daily production tasks and show operations.
  • Support Audio and Lighting Technicians with the setup, operation, and breakdown of equipment during rehearsals and performances.
  • Contribute to technical preparations for theatre shows, degree showcases, MFA performances, and live conferencing events.
  • Aid in the setup, handling, and maintenance of theatrical equipment, including lighting fixtures, audio systems, stage elements, and control consoles.
  • Help manage technical inventory, ensuring equipment is properly tracked, stored, and maintained.
  • Use and support booking systems for equipment allocation and scheduling.
  • Maintain safe working practices and assist with ensuring compliance with technical and venue safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with the wider Live Productions team to ensure events are delivered to a professional standard.

Please Note - As part of the 2026 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placementHowever, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
   
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2026 Student Internship offering. 

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - 
 
  • Basic knowledge of audio, lighting, or staging equipment.
  • Interest in theatre production, live events, technical theatre, or related disciplines.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
