Student Internship 2026 - Fashion Art Direction Industry Futures Intern
Background
This internship provides a strategic opportunity for a student to contribute to the continued development of the BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction programme by generating an enhanced, future‑focused understanding of roles across the fashion image, communication, and media industries. The intern will research and map out emerging positions, industry expectations, and graduate pathways, creating a robust careers resource that supports student readiness for an evolving job market.
Working closely with Fashion Art Direction tutors and industry professionals, the intern will develop insight into the dynamics shaping contemporary fashion media: ranging from styling, photography, creative direction, casting, digital content, and new hybrid roles. The post also includes hands‑on experience contributing to the programme’s social media presence, the degree show, and end‑of‑year promotional activity.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct strategic industry research to identify existing and emerging roles across fashion image making, communication, and media.
- Analyse industry trends and future skills needs, meeting with professionals and specialist staff to gather insight.
- Develop and organise a clear, accessible careers database, capturing job descriptions, required competencies, career pathways, and graduate destinations.
- Support industry‑facing initiatives within the Fashion Art Direction programme, contributing to projects that enhance student visibility and engagement with the sector.
- Assist in shaping and maintaining social media strategy, working under Programme Leader guidance to strengthen course identity and communication.
- Collate and present data for internal and external promotional use, including GO platforms and relevant social/digital channels.
- Provide professional communication and administrative support to the programme team, ensuring consistent and well‑organised workflow.

Students will be expected to develop the following skills and experiences while carrying out this internship:
- Industry research and trend awareness, including the ability to analyse shifts in fashion media and creative labour markets.
- Data organisation and information presentation skills, producing structured resources for student and staff use.
- Project and time management through balancing research, communication, and content production tasks.
- Professional communication and collaboration, engaging with staff, external practitioners, and course cohorts.
- Social media and digital content capabilities, supporting strategic messaging and course visibility.
- Enhanced industry insight and personal career readiness, gaining a grounded understanding of the roles, expectations, and opportunities within fashion image and communication industries.
Please Note - As part of the 2026 Student Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
Students are only eligible to undertake one internship under the 2026 Student Internship offering.
