Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students; to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

This role is to support students to print high quality outcomes in the Digital Darkroom, supporting the distribution and use of production fund paper and problem-solving technical issues. They will support L4–L6 printing in Chatham print room during the busy printing period for assessment submission and additional print editioning. The student will need to collaborate with Photography staff and Technical Staff in operating and managing printing for the different year groups. 

Dates: 13 April – 15 May 2026

Hours of Work: Approximately 7 hours per week over 5 weeks / 35 hours total (timings will be confirmed depending on studies; student must be available during the first week of Spring Break and at least one day a week each week). Times will vary between 9am–5pm.

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the following requirements:

Essential Criteria

  • Current third-year student on BA Photography with practical experience in digital printing and print production workflows.
  • Strong understanding of file preparation, colour management, and print setup for high-quality outputs, specifically within the Chatham Digital Darkroom at MMU.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve common technical issues related to printers, software, and file errors.
  • Experience working with a range of digital print media available at the Make More store, including knowledge of different paper types and finishes.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage and distribute production fund paper responsibly.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical processes and support peers effectively.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the required 35 hours over a 5‑week period.
  • Familiarity with Digital Darkroom equipment and workflows.
  • Skills Needed: Adobe Photoshop, Print Handling, Print Colour Management, Problem Solving, Communication Skills.

The selected student will need to work during busy periods, preferably starting the week of 13 April (during Spring Break), and support during hand‑in activities. They will also need to collaborate with Photography staff and Technical Staff in operating and managing printing for the different year groups.
