The Biodiversity Monitoring & Student Coordinator will play a central role
in supporting the delivery of the Make a Meter Matter Project (MAMM).
Make a Meter Matter is a collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University,
Manchester City Council and the University of Manchester. The project forms part
of Gardeners’ World’s national Make a Meter Matter programme.

The aim of the project is to increase biodiversity in small, measurable green
spaces by planting enhancements such as bulbs and wildflowers, allowing nature
to grow, and installing infrastructure such as bug houses and logs. Enhancements
will be led by Manchester City Council and supported by students, local residents
and community groups.
The project covers public green spaces across Hulme, Moss Side and Rusholme, all
located close to both University campuses.
The postholder will act as the main point of contact for participating students,
responding to queries, coordinating activity across multiple sites, and ensuring
effective monitoring and attendance tracking.
This role combines stakeholder engagement and project management with providing
guidance and support to students undertaking biodiversity monitoring of local
green spaces.
Typical duties include:

Act as the primary point of contact for students from Manchester Met and the
University of Manchester.

Provide day-to-day guidance, resolve issues, and oversee project continuity
across all sites.

Support student biodiversity monitoring activities and log attendance.

Liaise with the MAMM Steering Group to escalate concerns and support learning
outcomes where required.
Responsibilities:

Serve as the main contact for students, providing guidance, pastoral support,
and managing onboarding and engagement.

Assist students in biodiversity monitoring activities aligned with project
objectives.

Track and record student attendance and hours across all project sites for
reporting and compliance.

Organise student volunteer monitoring rotas and ensure the safe delivery of
monitoring sessions.

Maintain communication with partners, attend meetings, and contribute to
project reporting and impact evidence.
