The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
This is an exciting post within the Careers & Employability Service to support students and graduates directly within our Careers space. You will be given the opportunity to gain practical experience participating in key activities such as one-to-one drop-ins and group sessions, delivering briefings for tech including VR headsets, supporting the promotion of career events, and helping students develop their employability.

You will work closely with all teams that make up the service. This will allow you to gain valuable knowledge of the careers support that the university is able to offer to students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a welcoming and approachable point of contact for students who visit the Careers space. Be a confident host to the space, reassuring, welcoming and encouraging, while managing waiting times.
- Lead and deliver Careers Support drop-ins, acting as the first point of contact for student queries across Careers, Placements, Enterprise, Rise and Jobs4Students.
- Provide both general guidance and more in-depth CV and cover letter reviews, including formatting advice, tailored feedback, and signposting to relevant resources and digital tools (e.g. CV360), nudging students forward with every interaction.
- Take responsibility for handling and coordinating bookings for Careers space rooms and resources, including rooms, VR headsets, and laptops for Rise certification exams and general use, delivering equipment demonstrations and ensuring resources are used safely, effectively, and in line with service expectations.
- Maintain a strong working awareness of activity within the Careers space, including drop-ins, events, workshops and bookable appointments, to ensure students are accurately informed, appropriately signposted, and supported when they visit.
- Appear in and contribute to student-facing social media and other promotional projects (including theCareers Service webpage).
- Run small group info sessions about basic CV formatting information and job-searching, providing information on sector-specific job sites, professional body websites, etc. (Career Hub, LinkedIn, Prospects, etc.).
- Signpost students to relevant resources (e.g. the Careers website, Career Hub, Prospects, etc), and/or drop-ins and appointments where required, and supporting students to book onto events.
- Inspire, motivate and encourage students to get involved in the range of extra-curricular events, activities and experiences that will help them stand out from the crowd and develop skills (e.g. Rise, internships, placements, etc).
- Support and promote Careers Service events, such as Welcome events, the Part-time Jobs Fair, Graduate Jobs & Placement Jobs Fairs, Future Me Week and themed Faculty Pop-Up Stand activities across campus.
- Conduct lecture shout-outs promoting the Careers Service, key events and activities.
- Update and check online guides and FAQ lists.
Dates of role: from w/c 28 September 2026 (Induction Week of Semester 1) to August 2027.
Hours: Full day shifts (6.5 hours) and Half-day shifts (3.5 hours). Expectation of at least one regular shift per week during teaching weeks (reduced schedule over semester breaks)
This is a popular role and we receive a high volume of applications each year. To ensure we can offer as many students as possible the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, strengths and potential, the recruitment process includes a first-and-second-stage assessment centre.
If shortlisted, you will be required to attend an in-person first-stage assessment centre day on Monday 22 June 2026.
If successful at first-stage, you will then be invited to second-stage assessment centre on Thursday 25 June 2026.
If successfully appointed for the role, you will also be required to attend a series of in-person training sessions across the following dates:
