The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
We are looking for students to join our Programme Enhancement and Review (PEAR) Panels. PEAR panels help Manchester Met review and improve its academic programmes. The panels review specific elements of programmes such as what students are taught, how they are assessed, and how programmes support student learning and success.
PEAR panels look at many different aspects of the teaching and learning experience. As a student panel member, you will help us consider questions such as:
- Is the programme easy to understand and navigate?
- Do the teaching methods help students learn effectively?
- Are assessments clear, fair and manageable?
- Is feedback likely to help students improve and succeed?
- Does the programme provide appropriate support for students?
- Does the curriculum prepare students for further study or future careers?
- Are different student perspectives, backgrounds and experiences reflected within the curriculum?
- Are there any barriers that could affect students' ability to engage, achieve or feel a sense of belonging?
A student is a valuable part of the PEAR process. You do not need to know about curriculum design or university regulations to take part. What matters most is your experience and perspective as a student. We are interested in your views and your ability to think about how a programme might be experienced by students from a range of backgrounds and with different needs. Student panel members often notice things that staff may overlook and bring valuable insights about the student experience.
This is a great opportunity to help shape the future student experience at Manchester Met while developing valuable skills in communication, critical thinking, teamwork and constructive feedback.
What is involved?
This is an occasional paid role with no regular hours. Successful applicants will be invited to take part in in-person PEAR panels throughout the academic year. For each panel, you will:
- Read and comment on programme documents in advance (2-6 hours).
- Attend a panel meeting with staff and other panel members (typically a half or full day - 4-7 hours).
- Share your thoughts, ask questions and provide feedback from a student perspective.
Training
No previous experience is required. All successful applicants must attend one mandatory paid, two hour training session on Thursday 24 September. Support is available throughout the PEAR process.
