Job Description

The current opportunity is available to current Manchester Met students only. To apply, you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

The BA (Hons) International Design Top-Up programme is looking for two Onboarding Ambassadors to help welcome and support newly enrolled Level 6 international students as they begin their studies at Manchester Met.

About the role

As an Onboarding Ambassador, you will play an important role in helping new students settle into university life and feel confident navigating both the University and their programme.

You will work 2 hours per week over an 8-week period, typically consisting of:

  • 1 hour of structured induction support with new students.
  • 1 hour of flexible support, responding to occasional queries by email or providing guidance in person.

What will you do?

You will help new students become familiar with the University's facilities, systems and ways of working. Tasks may include:

  • Demonstrating how to use the wide-format printers.
  • Introducing key academic terminology, such as development documents and reflective writing, using examples of student work provided by staff.
  • Supporting students with Adobe software access.
  • Helping students access workshop inductions.
  • Showing students how to book equipment, rooms and other University facilities.
  • Leading campus and University tours.
  • Acting as a friendly first point of contact for general questions and signposting students to appropriate support services where needed.

If you are enthusiastic, approachable and enjoy helping others, we'd love to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your communication and leadership skills while helping new international students make a positive start to their time at Manchester Met.

Dates and commitment

  • Duration: 16 hours in total (2 hours per week for 8 weeks).
  • Start date: Wednesday 30 September.
  • Working pattern: All contact time will take place on Wednesdays.
  • Training and briefing: Thursday 24 September, 11:00am, Lowry Café.

This role is ideal for students who are confident communicators, enjoy supporting others and want to help create a welcoming experience for new international students.

Person Specification

This role is open to current Manchester Met Art & Design students who:

  • Have completed at least one year of study at Manchester Met and can confidently guide new students through the induction process.
  • Are approachable, organised and confident communicators.
  • Are available for 2 hours per week during the first 8 weeks of term, in addition to attending the compulsory briefing session.

Ideally, applicants will be Level 6 students from Interior Design, Product Design or Graphic Design. However, confident and well-organised Level 5 students are also encouraged to apply.

Application process

Please submit a short suitability statement (maximum 500 words) explaining:

  • Why you are interested in the role.
  • How you meet the essential criteria.
  • Any relevant skills, experience or knowledge you would bring to the role.

A CV is not required.
