The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students from the Department of Sociology (and Criminology), to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
Job role:
The School of Sociology and Criminology are developing new teaching programmes for delivery in 2025/26. As part of the Level 5 Criminology in Practice module (due to start January 2027), students will work on Live organisational briefs / live projects (in small groups) set by industry partners.
“A live project comprises the negotiation of a brief, timescale, budget and product between an educational organisation and an external collaborator for their mutual benefit. The project must be structured to ensure that students gain learning that is relevant to their educational development.” (Anderson and Priest, 2014: 13)
This post will support the School of Sociology and Criminology with the development of live projects by undertaking scoping activities to capture project ideas, potential approaches, processes and barriers. This will be used to support the development of a common set of principles and processes, which are mutually beneficial and provide an authentic working experience.
Tasks for the internship include literature reviews / qualitative research and analysis of information:
Task 1:
- Review academic literature on Live Projects to develop themes / questions
- Development of briefs and semi structured interview schedule (20 hours)
Task 2:
- Gathering views from university colleagues and industry partners (up to 20 hours)
Task 3:
- Analysis / Synthesis of Information and views collected (approx. 20 hours)
Dates: 2 June - 11 July 2025
Hours of Work: flexible (within office hours)
Please Note - As part of the 2025 Sociology Internship offering, priority will be given to Level 5 & 6 students who have specified in the Careers Registration survey (this is completed during enrolment and cannot be changed at this time) that they have had no work experience in the last 12 months and would like some on campus work or a short work placement and those who have not worked via Jobs4Students previously. However, applications are welcomed from all students meeting the criteria below.
Students are only eligible to undertake one Sociology Internship.
