Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
 
 The English Department is seeking one MA Publishing student to typeset a bilingual anthology, featuring poetry, script and visual artwork created by the artists in the UNESCO Manchester and Nanjing Cities of Literature – International Artist Exchange Programme. The work explores the ecological theme of Real Contentment, through engaging with the waterways in the cities of Manchester and Nanjing, and will be presented, along with the anthology, in June during the Festival of Libraries.

 

Duties:
  • Design the interior layout for the book and typeset the text and artwork in in InDesign with a presentation that is both functional and beautiful, and that is cohesive with the artists’ creations as well as exchange programme and existing brand positioning. 
  • Apply revisions to the typeset file following the proofreading stage.
  •  Prepare files for print according to specifications, and ensure printed materials meet quality and colour standards
  •  Manage the workflow schedule and meeting tight project deadlines
 
Dates: w/c: 9 May - 5 June 2025
Hours of Work: 30 in total - 15 hours first week, 5 hours per week for 3 weeks after. 
Details of briefing/training: Briefing to take place via Teams.
 
Interview: Thursday 8 May 2025 between 11:00am and 2:45pm

Person Specification

This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements-
 
  • Strong command of InDesign software for typsetting.
  • Skill with typography and image layout (experience in multilingual typesetting a plus)
  • Strong aesthetic and conceptual skills
  • Ability to collaborate and meet tight deadlines
